CREATIVITY IN THE KRANHAUS CENTER

The Kranhaus Center in Cologne embodies the combination of a location steeped in history with the concept of new use in several ways. Over the last 40 years, the metropolis along the Rhine River has renovated the old buildings of the Rheinau harbor area and combined them with spectacular new constructions to create an attractive new location for modern businesses.

Currently, the architectural highlight is the three Kran buildings that were built between 2006 and 2010. Their inverted L-structures remind us of the loading and unloading of ships, but combined with bold bridge building techniques, they offer new dimensions of perception. All three buildings are approximately 61 meters high, 70 meters long, and 34 meters wide. This new landmark of the city offers exclusive office space and apartments.

The Hamburg architecture office Bothe, Richter Teherani (BRT), as well as architect Alfons Linster, based in Aachen, oversaw the building project. Shortly after its completion on March 12, 2009, the middle Kranhaus received the “Business Center” Award at the premier real estate event MIPIM in Cannes.

The 17-story-high Kranhaeuser have between 15,000 and 16,600 square meters of usage space, are well-equipped, and offer a unique view of Cologne and the Rhine River.
